ESG Charter

KUDO will consider how our legal work and office operations affect people, the environment, and public trust. We will identify actions each member can take and make the following principles part of our everyday work.

We Will Consider the Environment and Resources

We will prioritize electronic documents while taking account of situations in which originals are required by law or for our work, and reduce unnecessary printing and the use of disposable items. We will monitor the electricity used by office equipment and use resources while observing both document security and waste-sorting principles.

We Will Build a Respectful Workplace

We will respect the dignity and differences of our colleagues, clients, and the people we work with. We will work to prevent discrimination and harassment, and consider our colleagues' health and rest when discussing work allocation and schedules.

We Will Find Ways to Serve Clients and Society

We will explain matters accurately and clearly so that clients can understand their circumstances and options. We will consider the needs of people and communities requiring legal support, and seek opportunities to participate in public interest activities suited to our members' capabilities and circumstances.

We Will Uphold Ethics and Protect Information

Before accepting work, we will check for conflicts of interest and clearly explain the scope of work, fees, and expenses. We will protect client confidences and personal information, and share materials only to the extent necessary for our work. We will guard against improper requests or benefits and maintain independent legal judgment.

We Will Review Our Progress and Improve

Our Managing Partners and team members will discuss improvements to office operations and begin with actions that can be put into practice. We will reflect the results of our reviews in subsequent work, and base public statements about our activities and achievements on verifiable information.
